Interesting factoids from the election include…
- Jennifer Gibbs and Charles Baker going to a Clerk of Court run-off. Gibbs is a complete newbie to the political scene, while Baker worked in the office as DEPUTY CLERK OF COURT for many years. Again, I ask- how is this race even competitive? Why isn’t Baker cruising to a victory instead of in second place?
- Bob Vass, the two term former Sheriff, losing mightily in the same race. The GOP sandbagging from last week really did a number on him.
- Patrick Bell beating the incumbent County Commissioner David Richard… Dave has muddied the political water on the west side of Lanier. When you ruffle enough feathers, The Man gets his pound of flesh come election time.
- Ashley Bell winning his first election after a few tries. Congrats to Ashley, although it would’ve been nice to see it at a lower price than booting an incumbent Democrat from the seat (Deborah Mack).
- Strong showing from Vernon Jones in Hall County, but poor numbers in Forsyth. The two counties are very similar in a number of ways, but demographically, there’s still a large gap. It comes down to minority voters- maybe I’ll do a search on the racial make-up of the two counties.
Any surprises that I missed?
