My stance on the oil crisis was detailed (in part) here. In a nutshell, I’m against drilling because I don’t think it will solve the problem. But with the understanding that we have to find a comprehensive energy plan that all Americans can support- and that will actually work- I’ve been open to limited drilling if it meant providing substantial support toward alternative and renewable energy.
All politics is a compromise, right? More below the fold.
Lo and behold, the gang of 10 (including both of Georgia’s Senators) have advocated just such a plan, and it appears that Nancy Pelosi might be open to hammering out a deal.
I thought this was good news. Until I heard that Saxby Shameless Chambliss was being eviscerated by his GOP base- Rush Limbaugh, Neal Boortz, etc.
The deal sounds like a sensible way for diametrically opposing viewpoints to find a compromise. It could get through the legislature, and it might actually work for the American People. I’m still not voting for Saxby, but his personal approval rating has raised .001% with me.
Is it that the extreme right of the GOP refuses to compromise because it’s a bad idea? Or because it neutralizes a campaign issue for them?
